PreS-Gr 3—Isabella is a little girl with a big imagination. When Mommy rouses her from bed in the morning with a cheerful "Good morning, Isabella," the girl replies, "My name is not Isabella." Throughout the day, her identify shifts from Sally Ride to Annie Oakley, Rosa Parks, Marie Curie, and Elizabeth Blackwell before she becomes Mommy at day's end. Mike Litwin's mixed-media illustrations from Jennifer Fosberry's picture book (Sourcebooks, 2008) perfectly capture the little girl's spunk and vibrant personality. The story's upbeat narration is also complemented by the sounds of beeping rocket ships, bubbling test tubes, and jaunty rodeo tunes. A bonus segment details the real-life achievements of each of Isabella's heroines.
VERDICT This is a nice addition to biography units for the youngest audiences.
