PreS-Gr 2–A young elephant and their grown-up are preparing for a super exciting camping trip where marshmallows will be roasted and songs will be sung around the campfire. As packing ensues, consideration is given as to whether or not pack some stuffed animals to accompany them, but the young elephant decides
that they are way too old to be bringing those along, and “Sugarpie smells like puke because of that time. And Bad Debbie is, well…
bad.” Adorable round-eyed stuffed animals stare blankly back. Once the tent is set and nighttime falls, the youngster is having serious misgivings about making it through the night without a stuffie in tow. Despite being overtired, the grown-up has a solution; a stuffie made out of their socks called Sockflea. The young elephant discovers that in a pinch, Sockflea will do just great. Sockflea gets the privilege of joining in the adventures of the remainder of the camping trip. Digitally illustrated in vivid colors, readers will find something to laugh at on every page. Most pictures are rendered to look as if constant movement is occurring. Told from the young elephant’s perspective in a hilarious voice, this story will give even the youngest readers a book that will entertain and delight.
VERDICT This book is a surefire hit for story hours, providing laugh-out-loud entertainment contained in an adorable bundle of elephant energy.
