K-Gr 3–Reggie, a rabbit, seeks help in finding his pet rock from the famous Squirrel Lock Holmes and his sidekick Mole Watson. Together, the trio retrace Rabbit’s afternoon, eliminate possible suspects, follow the clues, and eventually reunite Reggie and his pet. This graphic novel is broken into short chapters, featuring full-page spreads along with differing panel ­combinations to keep interest high. Colorful cartoon-style illustrations with easily directed text bubbles will appeal to children; bigger words and ­acronyms are defined in text panels. ­Slapstick ­humor (who knew gnomes could be villains?), clueless Watson, puns, and ­expressive characters make for a fun and silly ­graphic novel.
VERDICT A simple story for those seeking to add to their lower elementary graphic novel ­collection.
