PreS-Gr 4—Certified yoga instructor Ahmen Fahmy tells two stories, "Save the Whale" and "Condor Trek," while teaching children to stretch, pose, and strengthen as they become animals acting out the tales. Children may become more involved in the physical activities than in the narratives, but the variety of storytelling techniques might pull them back in as the program varies between demonstrations of the poses and occasional animation sequences. Teachers may choose to use this as a lesson or as a how-to: the special features include a short segment about the benefits of yoga as well as examples of simple poses performed by kids: downward facing dog and various warrior poses. Older viewers will be able to stay engaged in the activity for the program's duration, while younger kids may need snippets or a limited amount of poses. Teachers will need some space and may want to consider either yoga mats or at least towels as students are called back to the mat as a safe zone.
VERDICT Perfect for an alternative to traditional storytime or small groups who need to be moving.
