PreS-Gr 2–Sunny is an only child in a house full of adults who love and care for her. But sometimes, she really just wants to play with other kids. Sunny wishes for siblings and notices how much fun kids with brothers and sisters have. One day, a neighbor comes knocking and asks if Sunny would like to play. Sunny agrees and it’s great, but later Sunny starts wishing for the peace and quiet of her family home. The illustrations show an extended family that a lot of readers will recognize. Many will also relate to the feeling of wishing for siblings or wishing to be an only child. This is nice book to talk with young readers about different kinds of families and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
VERDICT An excellent look at what it feels like to be an only child, this is a good choice for any library’s picture book collection.
