Toddler-Gr 1–This jaunty though flawed rhyming book covers what happens at airports at night. The endpapers have a beautiful set of labels for airport equipment that children will find very interesting. An airport’s maintenance tasks take place overnight at airports; anthropomorphized animals guide readers’ eyes to the big equipment, and that’s fascinating. But most of the tasks, except for the runway maintenance, also take place during the day. This book could launch a discussion of the invisible laborers and support staff, but beyond that, is not of much interest.
VERDICT This book misses the very point it was trying to make, and with all the vehicle books out there, is not recommended.
