Gr 3–7—Maggie has been learning to survive Outbubble with her parents and little brother. People who live Outbubble (as opposed to Underbubble) have to fend for themselves with scary genetically mutated animals, gangs of outlaws, and no electricity. The government controls the Underbubble, providing its people with food and safety. Maggie will have to pick up skills in order to survive and protect her family. This will only be possible with the help of her friend Toad. This tween dystopian story brings the listener along on a journey with Maggie, who's renamed Ford Falcon. While Maggie's living situation is hard and sometimes dangerous, the overall theme of the story is hopeful. Sandy Rustin narrates with a flair that sends a powerful message about the importance of family. Male and female students alike will love to listen to the adventures of Ford Falcon and her family Outbubble.
VERDICT This is a fine choice for students who already love dystopian literature or those who are just getting started with it.
