K-Gr 3—When a mysterious count shows up in the kingdom with plans to steal the castle's riches, Princess Alise and her friends set off, complete with an arsenal of spy gadgets, to the neighboring kingdom for reconnaissance. In the seventh installment of the series, the inclusion of spies in what should be a standard fairy tale feels out of place. But there are some decent gags and plenty of action for kids, although a short scene involving Princess Alise in a prison cell surrounded by rats may be too scary for some kids. The production values are noticeably not up to par with other computer-animated productions; movements are a bit too stiff, and voices don't quite sync up. But these errors are small enough to slip past a more forgiving, younger audience. In the end, this is mindless fun, much in the style of the direct-to-DVD "Barbie" movies.
VERDICT An additional selection for larger collections.
