Travis: When Colby and I began The Yarn, we wanted a show that was a mix of Netflix (release a bunch of episodes at once, or close), Serial (have a bunch of episodes focused on one topic), and Beyoncé (release them unannounced). Season 1 was all of these things.

Since then, the show has evolved a bit. We’ve moved to a twice monthly three-pronged Yarn attack. Here’s how we see episodes breaking down at this point:

• The Unraveller. These are stand-alone episodes where we talk to a book creator and focus on just one of their books – our Kate DiCamillo episode is a recent example.
• The Series. Another stand-alone series where we talk to a creator about a series – our Dav Pilkey: Captain Underpants episode is our first foray into this.
• Seasons. This is when we will focus on one book over the course of multiple episodes.

For Season 1 of The Yarn we went with a book by an established author/illustrator team: Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm.

For Season 2 we wanted to go in the opposite direction and follow a debut author about to put her first book into the world.
