POPPINS APPRAISAL

I love this Antiques Roadshow video (sent to me by school librarian John Schumacher) of a woman getting a signed first edition of Mary Poppins appraised. 800 channels, and we can’t get an Antiques Roadshow: Children’s Books Edition?

INDIE TOP 10 FOR THE FALL

Every season the American Booksellers Association puts out a list of books they are excited about. The autumn list was just released and it’s full of stuff you should pick up. Click here to read.

WHAT’S THE OPPOSITE OF GLOW IN THE DARK?

I’d say its this book, Hide & Eek! The reader uses a flashlight to reveal hidden illustrations. Can’t say I’ve seen this technique before. It has a pretty fun book trailer as well. Click here for pictures.

PICTURE BOOK PROPOSAL

Trend watch: if you aren’t proposing to your lady with the help of a picture book, you aren’t doing it right. First there was the illustrator who popped the question in the acknowledgements of his debut book, then there was the dude in Chicago who created a picture book to ask for his lady’s hand. Now we have a guy in North Carolina following suit.

GOING BACK IN TIME

I stepped out of the comfort zone a month or so ago and hosted a panel of funny YA authors during SLJs SummerTeen online event (clarification: funny – in comfort zone, YA – out of comfort zone). Now the whole thing has been archived for “on demand” watching – head over to SLJ, register, and you can watch it all whenever you please. Click here to go.

GRRR!

Has it been a little while since steam expelled from your ears? Well, then – you’re in luck. Read this little blog post called Libraries = Socialism and you’ll be all set.

(Thanks to @librariancheryl for the link)

DO YOU KNOW EFFI?

I thoroughly enjoyed this slice of life from the Tales From an Elementary School Librarian blog. For everyone who’s ever received a request they just couldn’t figure out, this one’s for you. Click here to read.
