PRES-GR 2 Víctor is enjoying his delicious chocolate milk when the earth shakes and trembles, and then everything goes quiet. When Víctor looks out the window, everything is gone—all the buildings, people, dogs, and cats. In their place is a huge giant taking a nap. Víctor can’t believe his eyes, and he quickly finishes his chocolate milk and sets off to speak to the giant. When Víctor finally manages to wake the giant, the boy tries to explain why the giant can’t just eat cities whenever he wants to. There are so many wonderful things in the city, including his mother. Víctor has an idea for how to get his mother—and the entire city—back. Thinking of his mother gives Victor an idea on a snack the giant can have that isn’t a city. Pencil and digitally colored illustrations show the gorgeous mountains surrounding Víctor’s city and the enormous size of the giant as he slumbers. Both the English and Spanish versions are fun and would make great read-alouds. VERDICT Lovely illustrations and a rollicking narrative make this a great addition to children’s picture book collections, sure to have children requesting many rereads.
