I discovered Lamar Giles because of the We Need Diverse Books campaign, which he is a part of. Though technically I did already giles YA A to Z: Lamar Gileshave Fake ID in my collection (Go me!). And I’m not going to lie, I was completely smitten with him because his last name is Giles, as is a certain awesome librarian that I adore.

Here’s his bio, which I completely stole from the official We Need Diverse Books website:

Lamar “L. R.” Giles (VP Communications) writes stories for teens and adults. He’s never met a genre he didn’t like, having penned science fiction, fantasy, horror, and noir thrillers, among others. He is a Virginia native, a Hopewell High Blue Devil, and an Old Dominion University Monarch. He resides in Chesapeake, Virginia, with his wife. Twitter: @LRGiles

Fake Id was Giles debut book. Here’s the publisher’s description:

giles2 198x300 YA A to Z: Lamar Giles“Nick Pearson is hiding in plain sight…

My name isn’t really Nick Pearson.

I shouldn’t tell you where I’m from or why my family moved to Stepton, Virginia.

I shouldn’t tell you who I really am, or my hair, eye, and skin color.

And I definitely shouldn’t tell you about my friend Eli Cruz and the major conspiracy he was about to uncover when he died—right after I moved to town. About how I had to choose between solving his murder with his hot sister, Reya, and “staying low-key” like the Program has taught me. About how moving to Stepon changed my life forever.

But I’m going to.”

I will say that this book circulates heavily at my library so if you don’t already have it in your collection, you’ll want to fix that.

giles1 198x300 YA A to Z: Lamar GilesEndangered is set to be released by HarperTeen in April 2015. Here’s the publisher’s description:

“Her name is Lauren, but everyone calls her Panda. What they don’t know is that behind their backs, she also goes by Gray. As in Gray Scales, the photo blog that her classmates are addicted to because of the secrets Gray exposes: a jock buying drugs, a teacher in a compromising position, the richest girl in school shoplifting. But no one knows Panda’s the vigilante photographer behind it all. At least, she thinks no one knows—until she gets a note from the Admirer, who’s not only caught her red-handed acting as Gray, but also threatens to reveal everything unless Panda joins her Admirer in a little game of Dare or … Dare. Panda plays along. Anything to keep the secrets she’s protected for years. But when the game turns deadly, Panda doesn’t know what to do. And she might need to step out of the shadows to save herself … and everyone else on the Admirer’s hit list, including some of the classmates she’s loathed and exposed for years.”

I’m really interested in reading this title. It sounds like it might be a good read for fans of Panic by Lauren Oliver or Dare Me by Eric Devine.
