Build-A-Bear: Easter Egg Hunt

Baby-PreS–The Easter Bunny is hard at work hiding eggs for children to find. The interactive slide element of the book reveals that baby animals are inside the eggs. However, the illustrations do not match the text, as a dog and a capybara are found on the page that mentions the bear, while the bear is on a separate page along with a skunk. It’s additionally confusing because all these animals are babies and it’s unclear whether the book is implying that they are being born from these eggs or not. There are also two animals, a teal creature and a unicorn/fish hybrid, that add an element of confusion among what are otherwise real animals. Nothing about this board book screams product placement, and the coloring and quality of the illustrations are very pleasing. However, the Build-A-Bear logo and nonsense story will turn off some patrons.
