El guardián de los quesos

K-Gr 2–Bibi’s most favorite thing in the world is her cat Tigre. It sleeps with her all night, but where does the feline go during the day? Sometimes it appears super dirty and dusty. Other times, shampooed and dressed up. Her father suggests that Tigre has as many homes as it has lives. Bibi and her brother decide to follow their pet to solve the mystery. They discover that the cat has made itself a member of countless families in the neighborhood. They find it at home with a family with two dads and at another with two moms. Tigre has befriended all types of families—found, blood-related, adoptive, and otherwise. “There are as many types of families as there are cheeses,” the siblings agree, while sitting at a cheese shop as the content Tigre is fed by the shopkeeper. A bust of the cat appears in the background. The stylized art, done in mostly oranges, pinks, and greens, is appealing and features Tigre as Cheshire Cat-like and the center of attention wherever it goes. The store signs are in Spanish. Families of diverse compositions are shown throughout. All of the characters have white skin, except for a dark-skinned toddler who appears to have been adopted. The last page asks kids to draw a picture of their families.
