In John’s elementary school, Fridays are made even better by a weekly talent show, when every student is invited to share their unique gifts with their classmates. There was magic, comedy, and music, and John came to dance. Will John’s peers regard him with praise or taunts? The translation maintains the original’s simple and direct prose, highlighting that a boy dancing is just as ordinary as any other talent on display. The lovely illustrations are kid-friendly and warm. An excellent choice to spark discussion of gender roles for all ages.
VERDICT A first purchase, especially where the English version circulates well.
