Gr 8 Up–Eli is numb. He can’t remember the two months of his life after a terrible car crash and will do anything to just feel any emotion and have those memories again. He knows he’s losing his mind. As the anniversary of the car crash approaches, his therapist and family think it’s important to relive the night of the crash, so it can finally be put to rest. But something isn’t right. Eli can’t put his finger on exactly why there seems to be this longing inside him that feels like something or someone very important is missing. What starts as a poignant story of a teen spiraling from trauma and severe mental issues unexpectedly turns into an amazing psychological dystopian thriller. As Eli searches for the truth, he discovers a boy named Jack, who may be the key to his missing memories. Readers will be taken on a fantastical journey, swept away with the boys and hoping, just as they do, that they can survive the night and remember everything. This is an intense page-turner, packed with jaw-dropping moments: readers will gasp in shock after every chapter and scream at the ending. Both main characters are gay and use “he” pronouns; they and their families cue white.
