Gr 3—5—Willow is a 10-year-old fairy with a perfect-as-can-be older sister, a Fairy Godmother grandmother, and parents who don't understand her obsession with "Humdrums," or humans. Her wish to attend a Humdrum school is granted by her grandmother on her birthday. Hoping to make a friend, she sets her sights on the most popular girl in her class. Along the way, Willow learns that "popular" doesn't always mean "nice," finds her fairy powers, gets a dog, reconciles with her sister, and makes a best friend. If your library has fairy fans, this might be a good additional purchase; however, Laura Amy Schlitz's The Night Fairy (Candlewick, 2010) is far and away a superior choice.—Nicole Waskie-Laura, Chenango Forks Elementary, Binghamton, NY
