PreS—In this engaging pair of lift-the-flap books, Toucan greets a number of rainforest animals in the morning and Owl bids various woodland creatures goodnight. Both visually appealing books feature very basic layouts and graphic-style illustrations that resemble Colorforms, which allow youngsters to focus on the guessing game in each book. For example, on a verso, Owl says, "Whooo! Whooo! Who will sleep behind the tree?" A foldout image of some trees on the recto reveals a moose. Toucan concludes with a heartwarming scene showing the bird returning to her nest to greet her own babies with a delicious berry breakfast as the other animals look on. The second title ends at dawn with Owl finally ready to sleep just as his neighbors wake. Two colorful introductions.—Cathie Bashaw Morton, Millbrook Central School District, NY
