Toddler-K–“Splish, splash, splosh! I jump up and down in puddles!” shows a small child crouched like a frog on a lily pad. Opposite that child is an illustration of a frog. “I am small, but I have a big appetite!” On the left, a mother bird feeds a worm to three baby birds. On the right, a baby in a high chair is spoonfed. A child is shown snuggled under a parent’s arm, while a chick is just as protected by a hen. The comparisons are fair and funny, and small children will love pointing out the differences and the details.
VERDICT A board book for the early animal shelves, but also a text full of writing prompts at the early elementary level.
