K-Gr 3–In his second picture book as both author and illustrator, Hunt sends readers on a humorous quest for the illusive yeti. A self-proclaimed yeti expert is convinced that there is one hiding in the forest behind his house, so he packs a bag and sets off with his dog Milo to find it. After searching all day with no luck, despite having unknowingly climbed the yeti’s back and picnicked on its foot, he is convinced that there is no yeti in the woods—until the yeti returns his missing scarf. Young children will have a satisfying giggle as the unnamed main character misses the rather obvious yeti time and again. The text is simple and brief, yet effective, with different-sized fonts for emphasis. Illustrations are rendered in Hunt’s signature mixed-media style, using paint, pens, crayons, and digital methods. His use of negative space adds to the snowy effect of the winter landscape, and visual brushstrokes give texture to the trees of the forest.
