Jim Henson's Labyrinth: The Novelization

Gr 7 Up—The movie Labyrinth was released in 1986 to mixed success. It has, however, spawned a cult following and a four-volume manga sequel. This novelization of the film includes copies of handwritten notes from Jim Henson, sketches and conceptual designs from Henson's collaborator, Brian Froud, and a chapter devoted to how the movie was developed. Fifteen-year-old Sarah loves to recite from her favorite book, The Labyrinth. One evening, she returns home to find herself once again stuck with babysitting her baby brother Toby while her father and stepmother go out for the evening. Resentful, Sarah wishes out loud that her brother would be taken away by goblins, and, to her horror, he is. The Goblin King appears and tells Jennifer that her brother will be lost to her forever unless she can "unriddle the Labyrinth" leading to the Goblin King's castle, where Toby is being held. She has 13 hours to accomplish her task or the baby will be turned into a goblin. The book closely follows the script of the movie. Sarah encounters goblins and other creepy characters, befriends a few, and makes it to the castle just in time to save the day.
