Gr 7 Up–These books provide brief overviews of the political careers and personal lives of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Both titles delve into the backgrounds and shaping forces that motivated Biden and Harris to become the people that they are, including Biden’s working class upbringing and Harris’s experiences bridging the multiple cultures from which she draws her heritage. Both books strive to present a balanced, non-partisan view of their subjects—covering Biden’s at-times inconsistent academic performance to criticisms Harris has faced due to her connection with law enforcement—the result is a very impersonal text.
VERDICT While these titles provide information competently, they are unlikely to ignite any spark. Purchasers should consider based on the needs of the collection.
