PreS-Gr 1—In this ABC book, each letter is matched up to a plant, animal, or other feature found on the West Coast. Scientific names are provided for all the flora and fauna. Some of the examples may be above the grasp of readers, such as alpine plants and trees (for "A"), kinnikinnik (for "K"), and trillium (for "T"), though the accompanying illustrations may help make a connection. Easier ones include beaver (for "B"), mountain goat (for "G"), and owl (for "O"). Some examples are very specific to the area (juniper, nuthatch, umbrella, and Zigzag, Oregon). Detailed dark pen and ink sketches done in minimal color are eye catching, but overall the content will appeal more to adults than to children.—
