Gr 1-3–Brown does it again with this seventh entry in the “Lola Levine” series with kid-friendly wordplay, dinosaurs, and sibling antics. Second grader Lola, who is half Jewish and half Peruvian, and her little brother Ben are beyond excited for dinosaur week at school and their field trip to the Museum of Natural History. Lola has a tendency toward interpersonal conflict; the author casually incorporates tips for readers to navigate bullying and sibling rivalry with mindful choices like taking space and counting to ten. The story is sprinkled with awesome facts that dinosaur fans will love. The text is in a larger font with wider spacing and margins for early chapter book readers. Ecija is new to the series, but the style is similar and will be recognizable to series fans. There are a few black-and-white illustrations in each chapter, some of them full-page. They are digital, realistic style cartoons that depict diverse classmates with varying skin colors and types of hair, along with other visuals, like dinosaur charts and diagrams, mixed in.
VERDICT For fans of Judy Moody and Stink, this has fantastic crossover and great cover appeal. A must-purchase.
