Toddler-Gr 1–Toddlers learn all about different vehicles in the city with this wonderful interactive book. Each spread features a vehicle, with a definition as well as a labeled diagram, noting its special features. Children can use their fingers to move that vehicle within a track that goes through the city. Each cityscape and diagram also has speech bubbles with questions or suggestions as the vehicle moves: “Don’t forget to stop at the red light” or “How many cars do you see?” or “What color is the ferry’s flag?” This invites readers to peer at the smallest details. The specific nomenclature of the vehicles, like the pantograph on the trolley, is going to make this a big hit with young children.
VERDICT There isn’t a kid alive who won’t respond to this book; libraries should consider buying multiple copies.
