Pizza Witch

Gr 6 Up–Roxy is determined to make it as a Pizza Witch. In order to get into Magic Uni, she needs to go on a quest to find her own secret ingredient. When her boss, the Pizza Warlock, finally gives her a chance, she sets off with George, her best friend and cat. Along the way she faces danger, makes some mistakes, and falls in love—but at the end learns a painful lesson about trusting the people she meets along the way. A mix of vibrant colors and a manga-inspired illustration style add energy to Roxy’s adventures, in particular the action scenes. This graphic novel is fast paced and packed with silly humor, adventure, and romance. The romance content is limited to a kiss, hand holding, and to characters describing each other as cute or hot. Roxy and her potential romantic partners are girls. While the quest is over, the story is not fully resolved and ends on a cliff-hanger. The back matter includes a peek behind the scenes at how the creators worked together in the writing and illustration process.
