Gr 4 Up—To cram in more than 13,000 definitions in 666 pages, something has to give, and in this case it's visuals: this volume lacks the pictures and maps regularly included in dictionaries for this audience. Compared to the previous edition (2005), the main body of the dictionary is 48 pages longer, and the other sections have changed somewhat. Readers will still benefit from a pronunciation key and an "Initials, Acronyms, and Abbreviations" section, but gone are the "Measurement Tables" and "Facts About the 50 States" sections, replaced with precise guides to grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and idioms. The two-columns-per-page dictionary features entry words in red font with their pronunciations and definitions in black. Guide words are in white font in a red banner. This dictionary will be helpful for those who need definitions and as a quick reference to grammar.—
