PreS-Gr 1—At the end of Stileman's Roly-Poly Egg (Tiger Tales, 2011), out hatched Confetti, the hungry chick now featured in this picture book. To each of the various animals she encounters, the famished bird says, "I'm hungry." Each one, including Jemima Giraffe, Zoey Zebra, and Christopher Crocodile, in turn suggests that she try what they like to eat: "Yum!" The ravenous chick samples their food but always responds with "Yuck!" Finally Confetti's mom comes home with a worm, beetle, spider, caterpillar, and stick insect-everything Confetti enjoys. "Yum!" she says, "Yuck!" say all the others. Stileman's signature illustrations are on display again with bold colors, crisp edges, collage effects, and fabulous expressions. The blue bird is sprinkled with multicolored confetti and has expressive, googly eyes and funky banded legs with green kneecaps. There are many whimsical details for observant readers. The simple text is the perfect accompaniment to the artwork. Good for storytimes or individual sharing.—Catherine Callegari, Gay-Kimball Library, Troy, NH
