The passionate bond propels the story forward and will appeal to readers who are drawn towards a forbidden romance. The mature nature of their relationship and tension between them suggests that the novel is best suited for an older YA audience. The realm of Andalay, while conceptually intriguing, often feels underdeveloped: it leaves readers wanting to learn more about the society, its politics, and the magical gifts that shape Wren and Damien’s world. Damien has tan skin and black hair; Wren has caramel hair and turquoise eyes.
