K-Gr 2—This oversize German import is a typical big book of words, very much in the style of Richard Scarry. Each spread contains a scene or two with labels like barn, silo, and city, while in the ample white space above the scene are animals that one might find in that habitat. Personified mice appear on each page as well. The last page includes a map of the world with each continent labeled and some depictions of animals found in the book. The simple line drawings with watercolor washes are appealing but not particularly detailed. The book would benefit from each page being labeled to let readers know what part of the world they are exploring.
VERDICT An additional purchase at best.
