Gr 9 Up–Gwen’s sister Izzy comes back from Delphi School for Girls all wrong. She is a changed person. Gwen, determined to figure out what happened to the sister who came back, makes a plan to get sent to the school. Once Gwen is there, strange things happen, everyone knows not to go outside of their dorms at night, and no one knows what happens in the Writing Room, even though they have all been sent there. Gwen and her friends are trying to figure out how to save themselves, as well as how to fix those who have already left the school. Readers will be glued to the pages, trying to figure out what is going to happen next. This wonderfully dark story starts as creepy, but slowly spins itself into a horror tale with a subplot of love, both romantic and platonic.
VERDICT Recommended for fans of gothic fiction, horror books, and anyone who enjoyed C.J. Drews’s Don’t Let the Forest In or Lauren Kate’s Fallen.
