PreS-Gr 2—In this noisy story, three rambunctious foxes move out of the city to get some peace and quiet. The foxes are always banging, clanging, singing, and stomping. They begin looking for a place to live but are unsuccessful. The reasons vary (the locations are too quiet, too wet, too high, too dark, etc.), thus leading them to the conclusion that home is in the city, where there is lots of noise. The pages vary from multiple panels to spreads and flow comfortably. The author's use of different font sizes is clever and adds to the overall story. The loud sounds are bold with larger font, whereas the quiet sounds are smaller in size and lighter in color throughout the story. Children will also enjoy the repetition as well as knowing what comes next. Animated and cheerful mixed-media collage images are done in bright and vibrant colors.
VERDICT While exploring some well-trod territory, this is an entertaining story that young readers will appreciate.
