Thirsty Ground

Gr 9 Up–Imagine an existence with no water. Since the space ark Tsimmaon left the Arid Planet, they have combed the galaxy hoping to find enough water to keep their species alive. Training for a spot within the elite Hydroseeker League, Conway 12-1 is one of the strongest recruits amongst his group. He dreams of successfully making it to initiation and to continue missions that might finally lead to finding life-saving access to water. Ordered to explore the Arid Planet, Conway suffers a horrible accident that leads to a catastrophic spinal injury but also expands his horizons as he meets the people of Mayanah, who have somehow survived the “Dry Death.” However, they have a secret; water is deadly if one does not follow the rules. Only Selah, their young leader, can safely give them access to water. Conway soon becomes conflicted about his feelings for Selah and returning home. He must balance the desire to complete his mission and maintain hope his people’s technology might repair his injuries, all while coming to terms with potentially betraying Selah and her people. This postapocalyptic sci-fi story is filled with action, romance, and betrayal.
