K-Gr 3–Children, especially those with a bossy sibling or friend, will quickly relate to this humorous tale of a bear and a weasel who argue nonstop over how to play correctly when their friend badger is over for a playdate. Squabbling from idea to idea, the two animals completely miss the point of enjoying their friends’ company, and when the time comes for badger to leave, they still don’t seem to realize that their arguing has wasted all their time. Comical illustrations focus on the highly charged emotions of the animals as they argue over how to play “correctly.” Readers might find their animal counterpart in one of the three main characters, which could springboard into interesting conversations about collaboration and sharing.
VERDICT This German import will be useful and enjoyable in classrooms or on the SEL shelves. Recommended.
