It is written like an adventure to various locations. Readers will feel as if they are at rivers, volcanoes, and mountains, searching out various types of minerals and rocks. Wei-Haas explains why the rocks feel a certain way, why they have many different colors, and how rocks tell the history of the Earth, planets, and space. The digital illustrations are beautifully rendered and show all the details, from astonishing textures to vibrant coloration. Diagrams throughout show layers of rocks or layers of the Earth. These are all clearly labeled and very accessible; they could prove inspiring to future rock hounds.
VERDICT Children and teachers will thoroughly enjoy this well-organized, beautiful book about rocks and where they come from. Recommended for wide adoption.
