On pottermore.com, to access each day's surprise, fans must answer a riddle.

December 12 marked both the first day of the "12 Days of Pottermore" on the Harry Potter website pottermore.com and new writing on the fansite from author J.K. Rowling entitled "Cokeworth." According to pottermore.com, to ring in the holidays, new surprises will be revealed every day at 8am EST (or 1 pm GMT) through December 23. Some of those surprises will be: moments from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Scholastic, 2009), shiny gold galleons, and even a new potion or two. To access the new material, fans must have an account—and solve a riddle. Rowling's "Cokeworth" is dedicated to potions master Professor Several Snape, who shares a complicated relationship with Harry Potter and long-harbored an unrequited love for Harry's deceased mother, Lily. In the entry, readers learn that Cokeworth is the name of the fictional town where Professor Snape grew up with Lily and her sister, Petunia. The first riddle one must answer to unlock the material from December 12, goes: "In a house on Spinner's End, a meeting takes place. A mother begs help for her son, tears on her face. Agreeing to help, though he doesn't know how. Which potions master performs an Unbreakable Vow?" The answer is Professor Snape. Harry Potter fans must answer more riddles on pottermore.com for new delights each day.
