The finalists have been announced for the Angoulême International Comics Festival’s Prix Jeunesse, which will be awarded at the festival itself, held in Angoulême, France, in January. Angoulême is a truly international festival, and the nominees reflect the interest the French audience has in imported graphic novels; at the same time, French graphic novels are becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. Several of the Angoulême nominees are available in North America, and one, Musnet, will be published in English thanks to the successful Kickstarter campaign run by Uncivilized Books, which we reported on earlier this month. In addition to Musnet, the Angoulême nominees available in English are Ariol, My Hero Academia, and Roller Girl, as well as a collected edition of the comic strip Hagar the Horrible. And the one we’d love to see translated? Ichiko et Niko, a super-cute manga by Lunlun Yamamoto about the exploits of two cousins.
