This fall, HarperCollins will mark the 50th anniversary of the death of C. S. Lewis—novelist, essayist, and author of the beloved and bestselling children’s fantasy series “The Chronicles of Narnia”—with a worldwide campaign that celebrates his legacy. Kicking off the commemoration, the publisher has announced, is the redesign of both
www.cslewis.com and
www.narnia.com, and the expansion of both sites to offer C.S. Lewis ebooks and links to social media. As part of the ebook program, HarperCollins will release a new digital collection of the complete seven-book “Narnia” series, plus a bonus eighth book,
Boxen, available on the site and at ebook retailers. In addition, the publisher’s HarperOne imprint, the home of Lewis’s adult classics, will add several new editions, including an annotated version of
The Screwtape Letters and seven ebook-only editions of Lewis’s works of criticism and literary essays. More than 100 million copies of Lewis’s works, including the “Narnia” series, have been sold around the world and been translated into 46 languages, HarperCollins notes in the
announcement. The publisher also says it is launching a quote campaign “50 Fans, 50 Years Later,” featuring 50 quotes from fans around the world, including renowned authors and celebrities, celebrating the influence and significance of C. S. Lewis’s writings. The quotes—from such contributors as Tracy Chevalier, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, Neil Gaiman, Lev Grossman, Gregory Maguire, Cormac Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor, Lemony Snicket, David Suchet, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Dr. Rowan Williams—will be released via the official C. S. Lewis social media sites from November 1–22, 2013.
