Harry Potter Mobile Game Sends Users to Hogwarts

The first of two Harry Potter-themed mobile apps expected this spring has launched.

The first of the two highly anticipated Harry Potter-themed mobile games is out. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, from Jam City and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Portkey Games, lets users create an avatar and hit Diagon Alley for some books and a wand before heading off to Hogwarts.

The user's character is dropped into a specific storyline (no spoilers here) at Hogwarts years before Harry Potter's admittance to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Users are sorted into a house (but the game asks which you want, so a little fun is lost there), and, according to the game description "learn to cast spells, brew potions and more! Brew potions under Professor Snape’s critical eye, master Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall, and learn Charms from the esteemed Professor Flitwick." While Hogwarts Mystery will likely be fun and entertaining for Harry Potter lovers, the mobile game every Hogwarts-obsessed muggle is really waiting for is Niantic's Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Expected to launch this spring on an unspecified date, the follow-up from the Pokémon Go developer claims to allow users an AR experience to explore their own neighborhoods and find fantastic beasts, cast spells, and vanquish enemies around them.

While Hogwarts Mystery might not have the AR magic, the graphics are detailed and put the user in middle of the most famous locations from the series, such as Ollivanders Wand Shop and the Great Hall.
