Divergent: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Interscope)

Veronica Roth's
Divergent is the first book in a trilogy dealing with a female teen protagonist who, in discovering herself, becomes a catalyst of societal change. The movie soundtrack captures this dystopian world perfectly with a mix of alternative-rock, hip hop, and EDM. Composed by Junkie XL with executive producer Hans Zimmer, the songs by various artists brilliantly reflect the emotions and themes running through the film. Many of the tracks are edgy and futuristic, with tribal and electronic elements which convey a sense of risk and danger. Ellie Goulding performs three of the tracks and her voice was integrated into the score of the film. She completely represents Tris Prior, the lead character, and “Beating Heart” completely incorporates this union. Fans of
Divergent should thoroughly enjoy this movie soundtrack. Check out “Fight For You,” “Dead in the Water,” and “Find You,” as well as “Beating Heart.”

Her ability to blend numerous but very different sounds in one Latin pop flare musical experience has made Shakira the success she is today.
Shakira is her 10th studio album and her first since 2009. But this album is not at all what you might expect from the Colombian born diva. It brings a different experience to the listener. This is a more tender and intimate sound, streamlined and influenced by the strong country, dance, and folk songs popular today. These slow acoustic ballads are at times accompanied by some reggae and catchy dance numbers; in the end, it all comes together extremely well. Teaming up with the likes of Rihanna, Blake Shelton, and Magic! adds to the wow factor. While some Shakira fans might be disappointed, most will embrace this album along with others who might not have been fans before. Check out “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” “Dare (La La La),” “23,” “Loca Por Ti,” and “Medicine.”

Garden Warfare takes the original "Plants vs. Zombies" series and turns into a shooting military style campaign. The game describes the zombie apocalypse, where beautiful plants now defend humans’ lawns from the walking dead. This is clearly a multiplayer, cooperative game where you play with and against others. Garden Ops is the more cooperative survival mode piece, where each player chooses a plant character with the task to defend the garden from the onslaught of zombies. Maps have unique themes and every map features an interesting final objective. Players can look forward to hours of fun in assaulting or defending key points in the operation. The competitive multiplayer mode is Team Vanquish, a traditional team death match mode. Users can create zombies or plants in designated locations on the map which will then attack autonomously. While "Plants vs. Zombies" would not seem like a good mix for a shooter game,
Garden Warfare is a great twist on an already successful franchise and just makes it better. Rating: E for Everyone. Platform: Xbox One, Xbox 360.
