World Book Night has selected 35 books for its annual celebration dedicated to spreading the love of reading. In its third year, the program will mobilize tens of thousands of volunteers on April 23 to distribute half a million paperback editions of the chosen titles, nine of which are for children’s and young adult readers. Selected by an independent panel of booksellers and librarians, this year’s titles range from
SLJ Best Book and Printz Honor Book,
Code Name Verity to Newbery Award-winning
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. Free copies of all of the titles will be shared by people all over the world. Each volunteer will receive 20 copies to disseminate to those who don’t regularly read or don’t have access to printed books. For those interested in putting books in the hands of light readers or non-readers in their communities, individual
volunteer book giver applications are available. While priority will be given to individual volunteers,
group applications will be considered very selectively.
The nine children’s and young adult titles that made the US World Night list are: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky MTV Bks. 2012.
