Gr 6 Up—Part of a series of books designed to help children with various school topics, this book takes on study skills in general. Aimed at "frustrated parents," the guide adopts the typically visual DK approach (colorful pull-out boxes, clean layouts, and quick-read segments) to tackling children's homework and research projects. Authored by professors and other experts in the education field, this volume is well organized, taking on test preparation, online research, learning styles, study skills, reference, goals, and exam anxiety. While well intended, this offering may provide another level of stress to adults working with children. Parents likely have enough trouble getting kids to sit down and do their work, and they probably have their own hurdles when it comes to dealing with the subjects and methods of today's 21st-century assignments. Adding more reading material—as breezy and readable as it is—may not help. More appropriate, and welcome, may be the subject-specific titles in the series, such as those devoted to math, science, music, or coding.
VERDICT Not a first purchase, but consider the others in the series as needed.
