Gr 6 Up—This sequel to How to Rock Braces and Glasses (Little, Brown, 2011) continues the zany adventures of Kacey Simon. Last year, she went from the top of the popularity chain to the very bottom, and having new braces and glasses sure didn't help. Thankfully, it's a new year, which means that Kacey gets a chance to make a fresh start. She still has her braces, but now she has contact lenses. She's back with her old friends, Paige and Molly, and has even been accepted back as the lead singer of Gravity by Zander, guitar player for the band and her secret crush. Everything's looking rosy until Stevie comes back into Zander's life. She's totally gorgeous and has a perfect singing voice and tons of history with Zander. Turns out they used to be in a band together, and Stevie wants things to go back to the way they were. And Kacey's love life isn't the only thing being affected. Her divorced mom has fallen head over heels in love with Stevie's father. Can things get any worse? You bet they can-with failed pranks and a plan to break up her mom's new relationship, Kacey might just be turning back into the typical mean girl. And, she might lose everything she's fought so hard to get back. It's not necessary to have read the first book to relate to Kacey and cheer her on. All of the characters are well developed and fun to follow in this fast-paced romantic comedy.Traci Glass, Eugene Public Library, OR
