Gr 7 Up—Kenzie Ziegler is only 13 and known for her work on the televisions series Dance Moms. She believes other teens can learn from her how to live in a positive way and make themselves happy while still being true to themselves. Her suggestions for action include: have confidence, use one's voice, be grateful for what one has, and be a leader. Contained within the chapters are various sections on crafts, recipes, Q & As, quizzes, how to take action, and lists of materials needed to accomplish suggested goals. Ziegler's life is not like ordinary teens, though, and the way she talks about her multiple homes filled with clothes, for one example, expresses a consumerism that may be impossible to achieve for many readers. There are also no accompanying photographs, which could make completing the craft activities difficult. Though she talks about healthy eating, Ziegler also describes gorging on unhealthy foods at parties and with her friends. Thus, this book is very uneven in its outlook.
VERDICT A work that will probably only appeal to die-hard Ziegler fans and will otherwise be left on the shelf.
