PreS-Gr 1–Little Hoo is an anxious owl who has too many worries. Worries result in excess energy that needs to be burned off before bedtime. A variety of exercises are introduced including cardio, isometrics, and yoga. All can be done on the floor in Little Hoo’s bedroom (or perhaps in a classroom). Short rest breaks are interspersed and, by the end, Little Hoo is noticeably calmer and ready for bed. Readers not well versed in multiple forms of exercise may need to see examples of things like the boat pose, planking, or mountain climbers before using this book with children. Other exercises are self-explanatory. All should help youngsters calm down by burning through their anxious, extra energy. Digital illustrations are mainly in shades of orange and brown with Little Hoo demonstrating each exercise. The large, white font is easily readable against dark backgrounds.
VERDICT As long as it is adult directed, this picture book should work well one-on-one or with a group.
