Max and the Lost Note

Gr 2—4—Cool cat Max loses the note he needs to finish his new tune. He searches at home and then walks through town asking The Felines, a vocal group; Long Tall Dexter, a saxophonist; and other friends if they know where the note is and listening for it in the sounds of the city. The unsuccessful Max dejectedly returns home and discovers what he's been looking for stuck to the bottom of his shoe. A thin plot set in typewriter font and flat cartoon drawings in bright colors make this an unlikely choice for most collections, although some references to jazz names or instruments and reproductions of album art may appeal to jazz aficionados.—Julie R. Ranelli, Queen Anne's County Free Library, Stevensville, MD
