PreS-K—Preschool lamb Pammy and her best friend, goat Wyatt, hang out every day. Narrator Pammy is always in charge, as parade queen, swing beneficiary, and teacher while playing school. She's puzzled when Wyatt abandons her because of her refusal to take turns. Her big brother Eddie agrees to play basketball with her, and Pammy suffers the same indignities she inflicted on Wyatt and realizes the error of her ways. She offers to push Wyatt's swing, and the friendship is mended. Rankin's skill is again evident in these pen-and-ink, watercolor, and colored pencil drawings presenting amiable scenes of the exuberant lamb wearing a tiara and a plaid superhero cape. Her companion strikes more sedate poses, but Wyatt's expressive ears leave no doubt about his moods. The parade scene with a motley crew of toy observers is a joy.
VERDICT A gentle reminder to bossy folks about the benefits of cooperation, suitable for storytime or one-on-one sharing.
