Gr 1–2—These beginning readers are pretty dry. The main characters are anthropomorphized tools that have "adventures" going on a camping trip together or repairing things in their classroom. The stories are not very entertaining, except maybe for young tool enthusiasts. The cartoon drawings are uninspired. The keywords are simple, and some of the more challenging ones are listed in the back of each book. These titles might be useful as pre-reading tools, making them more appropriate for classroom use than school or public libraries.—Mary Hazelton, formerly at Warren & Waldoboro Elementary Schools, ME
