Each story neatly encapsulates a dilemma to which most young readers will be able to relate. Schoenberg provides a cheerful series of upbeat vignettes about second-grader Stuey's trials and tribulations with reading, soccer, and friends. Although he overcomes his problems far too easily (and the children in the black-and-white illustrations could be more ethnically diverse), readers will find Stuey believable and the positive messages reassuring.
