Gr 3–6—Herbert, Alex, and Sammi are back in all their AlienSlaying fame and glory in this sequel to
Herbert's Wormhole (HarperCollins, 2009). With the help of their alien-slaying replica space suits from their favorite video game, AlienSlayer 2, they climb onto Alex's jungle gym and travel through a wormhole 100 years into the future. There they are famous for slaying evil aliens in a world where G'Daliens coexist with humans. When Alex eggs on the G'Daliens' archenemies, bullies known as the Klapthorians, he finds himself in a battle to determine Earth's fate, and his only hope is to find his 111-year-old self to help the trio defeat the villains. Although the book is only moderately paced, the plot is humorous and the characters are fairly well developed. The black-and-white drawings are amusing and add to the story. Fans of the first book and readers who enjoy science fiction, adventure, aliens, and humor will like this one.—
Kira Moody, Whitmore Public Library, Salt Lake City, UTThrough a wormhole they discovered in Herbert's Wormhole: A Novel in Cartoons, ten-year-olds Alex, Herbert, and Sammi have traveled to the future and convinced people they are "AlienSlayers." When an actual alien invasion occurs, they must set aside differences and seek out help from their adult selves. The story's absurd humor and frenetic pacing will entertain readers who don't mind illogical time-travel paradoxes.
